term position through August 2024.JOB PURPOSE:Perform complex
accounting functions including designing and performing ad hoc
analyses, developing and maintaining complex data models, analyzing
large data sets, and reconciling complex accounts.The Global
Analyst will be part of the Global Business Services department, a
unit of Stanford's FMS (Financial Management Services). The role
will report to the Director, Global Finance Operations, and will
provide support for (i) the domestic reporting of international
activities (Dept of Education, Dept of Commerce, IRS...) and (ii)
the international accounting and tax for Stanford's growing legal
entity footprint. This is a hands-on accounting and tax role
requiring experience in international accounting and tax, financial
reporting, operations, and systems. The Global Analyst will work
closely and collaboratively with other members of the GBS team, and
stakeholders across the University, in support of Stanford's global
activities and subsidiaries around the world.CORE DUTIES:
- Perform complex and detailed reconciliations, closure
processes, research, and critical analyses. Identify, prioritize,
and resolve complex financial issues which may span multiple areas;
identify underlying issues; recognize exceptions; recommend
solutions.
- Collaborate with program employees and management (both in
countries and in California) on day-to-day financial, tax and
accounting operations of each entity within Stanford's global
footprint, requiring understanding and knowledge of Oracle Cloud
(Global Consolidation system), Oracle on-premises and reporting
tools.
- Research possible solutions and make recommendations to
department leadership based on audit / report reviews and
identified accounting issues; advise leadership regarding business
activities; provide cost analyses; plan studies; and determine
business activity costs.
- Research, and synthesize data; interpolate results from large
amounts of data, identify trends in data, draw conclusions, develop
solutions, present and implement recommendations, and create follow
up analysis.
- Develop complex financial data and metrics, reports for a
variety of internal and external audiences.
- Develop, design, or modify solutions for major segments of a
program or accounting system; develop, recommend, implement and
document new or revised policies and procedures as well as systems
improvements.
- Provide support in Oracle Cloud: monthly uploads from global
subsidiaries, currency conversion processes, data transfers to
Oracle EBS
- Support the operationalization of compliance calendars for each
company within Stanford's global footprint
- Provide support for legal entity repository's ongoing
maintenance.
- Together with key stakeholders, provide support for the
evaluation, documentation and implementation of policies,
procedures, and internal control frameworks for in-country global
operations.
- Review, design, and implement appropriate internal control
programs, research new regulations, and implement approved
changes.
- Develop regular reporting packages for governance review
purposes
- Drive continuous critical analysis of existing systems and
processes; identify need for new systems; develop and present
proposals; execute on approved
- Manage compliance programs for areas of responsibility,
interpret internal policy and external regulations, and create
and/or review complex compliance reports.
- Provide back-up and support for Global Reporting Manager,
charged with complex global compliance reporting
- Lead and execute unit or cross functional projects and teams,
make decisions regarding projects and programs affecting
operational effectiveness, policies, or processes.
- Partner closely with key business groups in: Treasury,
GlobalHR, OGC, IT, OOD, ORA
- Lead and support unit and organization strategy and change
management initiatives. Analyze existing systems and processes;
identify greater efficiencies and improved internal controls
opportunities; incorporate new regulations; recommend solutions
that may require policy changes or new processes.
- Continuously improve newly implemented global systems, and
support evaluation of business processes and rollout of new
implementations of local accounting system/s and consolidation with
Oracle Cloud.
- Develop, recommend and implement new or revised policies and
procedures for better controls and efficiencies. Participate in
critical analysis of existing systems and processes, identifying
and implementing process improvement opportunities.
- May act as a lead, train, coach, and review the work of other
staff, as needed. Contribute primarily through applying individual
expertise.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Education & Experience:Bachelor's
degree plus eight years of applicable experience, or an equivalent
combination of education and relevant work experience.Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced proficiency in business applications, such as
Microsoft Office; advanced Excel skills.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting systems and the internet;
computer literacy.
- Ability to interpret and apply advanced accounting knowledge
and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to
communicate information clearly and effectively to internal and
external audiences and client groups.
- Demonstrated project management skills and ability to
contribute/lead as part of a multi-functional team.Certifications
