This role will support the design and development of vision systems for medical applications. This Principal Vision Hardware Engineer will serve as an authority on vision system architecture, performance and system level integration, and work closely with engineers from other fields in order to design and develop solutions that meets clinical, user, and safety requirements.

Core Job Responsibilities
Architect, design, develop, and test end-to-end optical imaging and illumination systems for flexible endoscopic visualization.
Serve as camera and illumination hardware system authority, helping craft our technology approach to endoscopic vision systems.
Work across the boundaries of optical, electrical and mechanical systems, ensuring required image and illumination quality, manufacturability, and robustness are met.
Lead and influence internal teams and external partners to drive product development, ensuring technical solutions meet customer needs.
Author documentation including design drawings, engineering specifications, architecture/theory-of-operation reviews, engineering studies, design verification plans, test methods and protocols, and summary reports according to internal and external standards.
Represent R&D in failure analysis and yield/cost/feature improvement efforts.
Establish and maintain strong, positive partnerships across internal, external, and partner organizations.
Conceptualize and evaluate new technologies related to endoscopic imaging, illumination and sensor systems, participating in IP generation and review.

Master's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, optics, physics or related field with 10 years of product development experience.
Deep technical expertise and design experience in one or more areas of hardware design (optical, electronic, mechanical) for camera, illumination and/or photonic sensing applications, with broad understanding of end-to-end architecture.
Experience leading multi-functional technical project teams through all phases of the product development lifecycle including design, implementation, verification & validation, transfer to manufacturing and post-market release.
Proficiency in fundamental analog and digital electronics, and operation of electronic laboratory test equipment including power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
Experience in engineering drawing preparation, component and assembly ECO release, assembly BOM management and FMEA creation.
Proficiency in statistical principles/tools and statistics software such as Minitab, JMP, MATLAB or Python.
Experience leading external vendors and contract manufacturers in the development of custom optical, electronic or mechanical solutions.
Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Ability to travel up to 10%, international and domestic.

Strong design expertise in at least one of the following areas:
SolidWorks CAD design, GD&T, tolerance analysis and DFM
Camera/illumination system optical design in ZEMAX or alternative ray-tracing software
PCBA design with Altium design tools
Verilog-based firmware development using Xilinx ISE/Vivado
Algorithm design for real-time image signal pipelines
Expertise in component manufacturing processes and material selection for mechanically and thermally stable optoelectronic systems.
Expertise in optical system metrology, including spatial frequency response, optical aberrations, geometric distortion, visual noise, and colorimetry.
Experience in data analysis, hardware control and test automation in Python or MATLAB.
Experience in root cause investigations, DOE and failure analysis, applying statistical and problem-solving methods (e.g. fishbone, 5-whys, DMAIC principles).
Familiarity with IEC-60601-1, including concepts of design input, design output, traceability, and risk analysis.
