EngineeringLocation: US: New Jersey, CaliforniaPosition SummaryThe
Associate Director, R&ED Scientific Data Engineering - Data
Architect, is accountable for the development and evolution of data
architecture for R&ED. The Data Architect will create a model
and a strategy that will enable integration of complex scientific
data across R&ED to enable advanced analytics and machine
learning. This role will work in partnership with a broad range of
partners in IT and in R&ED, including IT Business Partners,
enterprise engineers and architects, Digital Capability Managers,
scientists, and software development teams to deliver innovative
data capabilities while ensuring adherence to data architecture
standards and best practices. This position resides within the
R&ED IT organization.Key Responsibilities
- Execute a data integration and accessibility strategy that
advances the data and analytical needs of R&ED using data
architecture best practices and technologies
- Develop data architecture roadmaps and blueprints; develop and
maintain conceptual and logical data models across domain entities
working with the BE FAIR team; leverage master data management
processes including ontologies, glossaries, and taxonomies
- Lead architectural discussions and design exercises to build
and automate large scale data integration and entity registration.
Review new project proposals to ensure that data architectures are
well designed and compliant with strategic models
- Drive the development and implementation of innovative ideas,
technologies and processes across R&ED serving strategic
initiatives like Lab of the Future, BE FAIR and PredictFirst;
contribute to digital strategy development
- Accelerate research with external sources of innovation and
capacity by partnering extensively with internal IT data
engineering & operations teams to streamline the flow of data into
R&ED IT platforms
- Develop strategic and collaborative partnerships with senior
R&ED IT Business Partners and IT leaders across the
organization to drive implementation of and adherence to strategic
data modelsQualifications & Experience
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information
Systems, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Alternatively, an advanced degree in a life science discipline,
M.S. or Ph.D., with deep computer science expertise
- 10+ years' experience in data architecture, data engineering,
solution architecture and enterprise architecture, with an emphasis
on cloud native architectures
- 5+ years' experience in designing, implementing, and/or
supporting technical capabilities including information systems,
digital solutions, data pipelines, reporting and analytics
platforms in the pharmaceutical industry
- Demonstrated ability to work in the life science data domain
including biology, chemistry, genomics, preclinical or clinical,
with a deep understanding of scientific data types
- Proven ability to manage teams with both direct report
relationships and contractor/partner relationships
- Experience with data-centric technologies like Informatica,
Kafka, AWS Analytics, Glue, Paxata, Redshift, DynamoDB, Neptune,
GraphQL, Nabu etc.; experience designing data ingestion, data
movement and/or machine learning solution architectures; experience
with advanced visualization tools like Tableau and Spotfire
- Understanding of ontologies, graph databases and knowledge
graphs, and application to inference and problem solving
- Broad knowledge of Research and Early Development functions,
laboratory operations, and interactions with CRO's and Research
