Job Description:
Airity is seeking a mechanical engineering intern to participate
in the thermal and structural design, validation, testing, and
manufacturing of advanced high-voltage and radio frequency (RF)
power supplies in collaboration with electrical and mechanical
engineers.
Airity develops compact RF and high-voltage DC power supplies using
novel resonant circuit topologies. Our products and services cover
a range of applications, including electric space propulsion,
semiconductor manufacturing tools, aerospace, medical devices,
environmental, and academic research. This position would support
engineers in product development, prototyping, and testing. This
role would require you to be flexible and perform many different
tasks listed below.

Requirements
Responsibilities
- Participate in structural and thermal design of new and
existing products using SolidWorks / Fusion 360 - from
specification to design, prototype, reliability validation, and
manufacturing
- Collaborate with customers to understand interface and form
factor requirements, in addition to operational requirements
- Testing and validation of prototype RF and high-voltage DC
power supplies
- Use python to troubleshoot bugs, create testing scripts, and
improve the performance of prototype power supplies
- Implement version control and create a structured documentation
protocol for CAD models
- Collaboration with electrical, PCB layout, and firmware
engineering teams to successfully design, validate, and manufacture
power supplies
- Drive innovation through novel thermal management techniques
and enclosure design
- Report on the status of development, quality, and performance
to management
- Document design assumptions, model definition, bill of
materials, and manufacturing work instructions
- Manage design changes effectively through documentation and
configuration control
- Participate in Airity's continuous improvement culture by
defining and implementing process improvements
Qualifications
- In year 2nd or 3rd year of a BS degree in Mechanical
Engineering, or the equivalent in experience and evidence of
exceptional ability
- Strong desire to acquire hands-on hardware experience in power
supply (AC/DC, DC/DC & DC/AC) design, test, and assembly
- Mastery of CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360)
- Programming experience using Python
- 1+ years of relevant hands-on hardware experience at a startup
or top-tier engineering firm
- 1+ years of relevant thermal design experience at a startup or
top-tier engineering firm
- Outstanding understanding of mechanical design, including
vibration, thermal management, design for affordability, and design
for manufacturability
- Understanding of conventional and non-conventional
manufacturing processes and experience working with internal and
external manufacturers
- Experience with Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and
Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
- Demonstrated design creativity through IP generation or
problem-solving
- Proficiency with basic ME tools (Computer Aided Design, Finite
Element Analysis, Simulation)
- Ability to perform prototyping and basic fabrication (drilling,
cutting, machining, grinding, soldering, 3D printing, etc.)
- Understanding of material science and coatings
- Mastery of GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5-2009
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
Nice to Have
- MS or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering
- Knowledge of environmental, reliability, and safety
requirements for Medical, Industrial, and Aerospace
applications
- Experience designing enclosures for electromechanical box build
assembly
- Experience selecting and working with contract manufacturers
locally and abroad
- Startup experience
