Clinic Manager (Non-RN) or Patient Care Manager (RN)
The Stanford Advanced Wound Care Center offers a comprehensive,
multidisciplinary approach to optimal chronic wound care, with an
emphasis on limb preservation for patients at risk for limb loss.
The facility, located at Stanford's Redwood City Outpatient Center,
includes two hyperbaric chambers for the treatment and management
of complex wounds. Led by experts in vascular and plastic surgery,
the Center coordinates care with other Stanford specialists in
infectious disease, dermatology, orthopaedics, radiology,
endocrinology, cardiology, nursing, physical therapy, nutrition and
social work.
Clinic Manager (Non-RN)
The Clinic Manager directs, manages, and coordinates the patient
care, personnel, administrative, business, technical and nursing
operations of one or more outpatient medical clinics in
collaboration with the Medical Director and top management
overseeing ambulatory care, including, but not limited to,
day-to-day operations, clinic-specific policies and procedures,
marketing, customer/patient satisfaction, facilities, maintenance,
procurement of
supplies and contact services, finance/budget, human resources, and
planning and development; plans, develops, implements and evaluates
ambulatory health care services, programs and activities; and acts
as the clinic leader to ensure the goals and objectives. The Clinic
Manager has the responsibility to collaborate with clinic
physicians and other health care providers to maintain and improve
clinic services. The Clinic Manager is not required to be an RN or
other licensed health care provider; however, in those clinics
where the Clinic Manager is not an RN, an Assistant Clinic
Manager-Clinical (or other representative of nursing management)
will manage and evaluate nursing staff with respect to their
professional practice within the scope of their licensure.
Essential Functions
Completes various special projects, which may require reviewing and
analyzing information, identifying problems, recommending
solutions, and writing reports.
Cultivates and provides exemplary customer service, assuring that
customer service standards are consistently met or exceeded;
identifies opportunities to improve services and takes correction
actions accordingly; analyzes customer/patient complaints, concerns
and suggestions and provides appropriate follow-through, including
prompt response to resolve any customer/patient complaints.
Develops, recommends, implements and interprets new or revised
policies, standards and procedures; monitors and enforces
compliance.
Ensures quality program management through compliance with federal,
state and local regulations concerning health care and Joint
Commission guidelines; continuously assesses care and services
provided to meet or exceed the needs and expectations of
patients/customers; identifies opportunities to improve quality of
care; and assesses and improves key processes that directly affect
patient services.
Manages clinic facilities and environment, assuring via other
support services, that the facility is maintained in a safe and
clean manner and presents a professional environment at all times,
and that clinic workstations and patient workflow are organized to
assure optimal effectiveness and efficiencies; coordinates
maintenance and repairs of clinic area, equipment and instruments;
identifies clinic operational needs; manages appropriate level of
equipment and supplies; coordinates and integrates
intra/inter-department systems.
Participates in the development of services by assuring that any
new health care providers who join the staff are appropriately
supported and oriented to the clinic; assures that growth
opportunities are identified; markets and promotes new and existing
programs and services to patients and the community; functions as
clinic liaison, representing the clinic and hospital to local
community and business groups and patients/customers.
Plans and integrates clinic functions to support the hospital's
priorities as regards goals and objectives and provides effective
leadership, business acumen and vision to maintain and "grow" the
clinic's services. Provides for fiscal program management by
preparing and maintaining annual operating budget within prescribed
parameters by monitoring income and expenses to ensure that
budgetary targets are met; forecasts staffing, capital and
operating budget needs in evaluating and reporting on the
clinic(s)' market position, financial situation, space utilization,
etc.; monitors performance of the plan, making adjustments as
needed; prepares financial reports and projections; identifies
opportunities to improve financial systems and services.
Supervises and directs the work of professional and support staff
to achieve optimum patient flow and cycle times appropriate for
services; analyzes staffing mix and staff deployment to meet clinic
needs; interviews and selects new employees; assures training and
orientation for all new employees; monitors staff productivity;
schedules work; coordinates reporting of payroll; establishes
standards and evaluates performance; implements employee
disciplinary process and responds to grievances as needed; assures
employee competencies and long-term development through regular
performance appraisals.
Tracks the flow of medical records and patient information through
the clinic.
Patient Care Manager (RN)
The Patient Care Manager is a Registered Nurse who provides unit
leadership and works in partnership with nursing, the healthcare
team, hospital/system leaders to develop a quality practice setting
that support professional nursing and quality patient care. The
Nurse Manager is accountable for the effective delivery of
competent, compassionate, and efficient patient care.
Responsibilities include coordination of patient care; supervision
of a professional team that includes multiple nursing and other
staff as appropriate; administrative and budget management;
troubleshooting of problem areas; organizational change management;
ensuring compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards;
quality assurance/quality improvement; safety and risk management
requirements as well as actualization of hospital and unit
policies, goals and objectives. Further, improving unit operations,
enhancing communication and feedback, customizing education and
staff roles, and accepting organizational accountability for
services provided to recipients are critical outcomes expected of
this role. The Nurse Manager role is critical to hospital
operations and minimally accomplishes the following essential
duties.
Clinical Practice: Ensures the effective delivery of competent,
compassionate, and efficient patient care by planning, organizing,
and directing the nursing services of unit(s), including the
assessment of patients, implementation of physicians' orders,
treatment plans and medical procedures, administration of
medication and record keeping of same as well as by monitoring and
evaluating patient care processes and outcomes for the patient care
unit(s); coordinates nursing activities with those of other
services or disciplines. Demonstrates clinical competency in
assigned specialty area role models nursing practice consistent
with the organizational and department mission, vision and
values.
Communication: Communicates in a clear and effective manner to
enhance team effectiveness, manage conflicts, engage employees and
interdisciplinary colleagues in unit activities and performance
changes. Collaborates with others within the unit and with all
hospital departments and disciplines to enhance problem solving,
decision making and performance improvement.
Fiscal Accountability: Plans and forecasts the department budget by
calculating required FTES, planning annual budgets, interpreting
payroll and other key fiscal reports, projecting workload as well
as monitoring and enhancing productivity. Performs variance
analysis by interpreting financial performance and identifying key
drivers. Identifies unit/capital budget needs in collaboration with
physician and nursing colleagues. Plans and implements staff
scheduling, position controls and attendance control
procedures.
Human Resources: Directs the personnel management of the employees
assigned to the department consistent with state and federal labor
laws, collective bargaining agreements, and nursing service and
hospital philosophy, goals and policy. Ensures that new staff is
interviewed, hired, trained, oriented, precepted and evaluated.
Prepares and conducts employee performance appraisals. Approves
transfers, promotions and other decisions affecting employee pay
and status. Participates in initiating and documenting disciplinary
actions and responding to grievances.
Leadership: Assumes twenty-four (24) hour responsibility and
accountability for the operation of the assigned patient care
unit(s), service(s), staff, and facilities. Plans, organizes and
directs short- and long-term departmental activities in accordance
with hospital goals and accrediting organization standards.
Provides leadership and direction for the staff in the patient care
unit(s) while supporting and actualizing the goals of the
department, division, service, and hospital. Functions as a
resource to staff and interdisciplinary team members and
interdepartmentally, consults on nursing care and professional
nursing practice.
Performance Improvement: Assumes responsibility for accessing and
utilizing appropriate date in order to monitor unit operations.
Accountable for achieving patient and staff satisfaction targets
for the organization and unit of responsibility. Develops,
implements and evaluates process improvement projects/process in
order to continually monitor and improve patient care.
Professional Development: Facilitates professional development and
clinical growth of nursing staff through implementation and
maintenance of unit specific competencies. Promotes and facilitates
educational opportunities based on assessment of staff needs.
Quality Management: Supports the quality framework, which includes
both clinical and service quality indicators. Creates an
environment of patient care that is safe, effective, patient
centered, timely, efficient and equitable.QualificationsAny
