As a Senior Manager working on our data intelligence platform, you'll solve some of the most challenging and complex problems facing companies today - helping people find, understand, trust and use data. Easy access to data makes it possible for our users to do better work and create value. (In the words of one of our customers, "Alation makes me look like a rockstar.")

This leader will guide a team that is focused on improving the experience for business users who work with data on a daily basis. You'll partner with research, product, and engineering colleagues to define and build the product vision. You'll grow the team responsible for defining the business user experience, helping to develop well-rounded designers while enabling growth at scale. This is a hands-on role, and you'll have your own projects to develop while guiding the work of others.

To be successful in this role, you will have the skills and enthusiasm for leading and building high-performing teams, and the desire to own the product design processes and strategies that position people and product teams for success.

Deep experience in data platforms isn't required, but experience in building collaborative or workflow-oriented applications (such as CRM, content management, finance or planning software) is essential.

What You'll Be Doing
Mentor, teach and coach other designers, helping us grow our team's skillset and lay the groundwork for great design for years to come.
Work closely with product managers and others to illustrate and define our product vision and strategy, and to deliver the company strategy to our users.
Influence strategy across the Alation through system thinking, research and design methodologies.
Create and rapidly iterate on ideas in order to develop them using storyboards, user flows, mock-ups, and prototypes.
Improve the processes for developing, communicating, and implementing the user experience.
Champion customer needs and design principles across the organization.
Foster Alation's culture and principles within the product management team.
Use facilitative leadership skills to drive the best outcomes for stakeholders and users and to inspire teams across the enterprise.

You Should Have
Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or equivalent professional experience.
8+ years experience working as a product, ux or interaction designer on complex consumer or enterprise applications, preferably workflow or process oriented.
3+ years of experience leading teams of designers.
An online portfolio or samples of work demonstrating experience creating user-centered design solutions.
Deep understanding of user-centered design methods and best practices.
Proven track record in setting a vision for great experiences, inspiring others to get behind the vision, and ultimately delivering products and services that are known for their awesome user experience.
Experience performing research at both the exploration and validation stages of a project. We consider the ability to perform primary research as a core function of the design process.
Strong communication and listening skills with both internal and external audiences. For many of our customers, you will be the face of the product.
An ability to articulate what makes an experience valuable, useful or effective - grounded in user empathy and insights.
