powerful, community-based professional workforce development
pathway. Through a one-year program Alder GSE engages and supports
community members in traditionally underserved communities across
California to earn a Master's and teaching credential through a
teacher residency model. Twelve years into our work, Alder GSE has
prepared over 665 teachers across California and data show that our
graduates are more effective as teachers, stay in the profession
longer, and their demographics more closely mirror those of their
TK-12 students. We are growing and building on excellent results
with a remarkable team.
The People Operations Manager is a newly created, hands-on role
that provides exceptional employee customer support as the
representative for day-to-day HR/People inquiries. This role will
report to the Chief Operating Officer and is ideal for someone who
is looking for broad exposure to human resources, people
operations, and wants to grow with a scaling organization. You'll
support Alder's mission to develop significantly more great
teachers and leaders, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of
the Alder team by serving as the main administrative point of
contact for areas such as onboarding, employee support/inquiries
such as benefits, hiring, payroll inquiries, and leaves of absence
while ensuring ongoing compliance. You will also support our
company culture initiatives, including supporting Alderwide events
and communications to build connections and celebrate Alder's staff
in a growing & distributed workforce. -ResponsibilitiesPeople
Operations
- Be a go-to team member by providing day-to-day support for
employees for all HR/benefits/payroll related inquiries and
requests in a friendly and helpful manner
- Manage Alder's HRIS system to maintain employee files with
accuracy and confidentiality
- Support bi-weekly payroll administration including collection
and tracking of relevant documentation -
- Complete HR related paperwork such as verifications of
employment and draft documentation to support employment status
changes (ex. PANs, COLA letters)
- Support leaves of absence including calculation of coordinated
benefits, advising employees, and completing all required
paperwork
- Coordinate with COO and Alder's benefits firm to administer
benefits, answer employee questions, and support annual open
enrollment
- Manage 403(b) employee enrollment and contributions -
- Suggest new procedures, technologies, and policies to
continually improve efficiencies of the People/HR department
Human Resources Policy, Compliance, and Reporting
- Proactively identify relevant legislation and policy and guide
Alder through implementation
- Ensure Alder is in compliance with all local, state, and
federal HR laws
- Advise on employment classification and related topics -
- Ensure Employee Handbook is up to date and compliant with all
laws
- Manage implementation of required HR trainings and ensure
completion across all employees
- Support HR data collection and reporting in collaboration with
Alder's data team -
Staff Hiring, Onboarding, and Talent Development
- Support Alder managers in sourcing, tracking, interviewing, and
hiring candidates for full time positions; ensure fidelity with
Alder's hiring policies in collaboration with COO and CDEIO
- Manage the onboarding process including offer letters,
background checks, new hire paperwork, enrollment in benefits and
retirement, and required trainings; track completion in Alder's
HRIS
- Partner with IT for onboarding employees/manages equipment
details when needed
- Coordinate onboarding and orientation across teams to ensure a
warm welcome for teammates at Alder -
- Track temporary employee end dates and ensure offboarded in all
systems -
- Support processing of terminations, offboarding, and complete
exit interviews as needed -
Faculty Hiring
- Manage the HR onboarding process for temporary faculty hires
including background checks, new hire paperwork, and required
trainings; track completion in Alder's HRIS
- Draft offer letters and offer letter addendums for temporary
faculty -
Employee Culture and DEI
- Support the CDEIO with DEI programming and key initiatives such
as Alder-wide Affinity Groups, Alder Orientation, and reporting of
Alder DEI Metrics
- Support the development of content for Alder's website to
integrate and elevate DEI themes in addition to ensuring compliance
with all regulations
Qualifications
- B.A. Degree required, preferably in Human Resources or related
field
- PHR or SHRM-CP credential preferred
- Minimum of 2 years professional experience in an HR
administration, People Operations, or similar role preferably in a
growing organization, with an eagerness to grow and develop HR and
People Operations expertise
- Strong knowledge of California state and federal employment
practices, policies, and guidelines a plus
- Experience working with K-12 or higher education, teaching,
school leadership, and or serving diverse students, staff and or
faculty.
