Codexis is looking to hire a Director, Business Development to join our Pharma Manufacturing team. This is a field position
Codexis is a leading Enzyme Engineering company with three business units focused on Pharma Manufacturing, Life Sciences (Performance Enzymes), and Biotherapeutic Discovery.
Pharma Manufacturing has been the flagship of Codexis from its inception and is still the highest revenue generating business vertical, focusing on the development and supply of biocatalysts for the manufacture of small molecule pharmaceuticals. - During the 20+ years of Codexis' tenure, we have developed close relationships with most big pharma companies, and licensed our protein engineering platform technology to GSK, Merck, and Novartis. - In close collaboration with our partners, we develop tailor-made enzymes under services programs to then supply enzymes for research, development, and commercial manufacturing. - In 2022 we sold more than 25 MT of enzymes to over 50 customers.
About the Opportunity:
The Director, Business Development, Pharma Manufacturing (North America) is responsible for the ongoing growth and development of Codexis' Pharma Manufacturing business unit, driving new customer relationships to create value for all parties. -The role is critical to the long-term growth and profitability of the Pharma Manufacturing business unit, and the company as a whole, since North America represents the single largest market for Codexis, and this is a leading role in the territory.
With three business units focused on Pharma Manufacturing, Life Sciences (known collectively as Performance Enzymes), and Biotherapeutic Discovery Codexis has an expanding portfolio of new products and applications. - Its Pharma Manufacturing business unit has been providing products and services to the Pharma industry for more than 20 years; enabling award winning, cost-saving commercial manufacturing processes for dozens of APIs and intermediates, while partnering with 21 of the top 25 pharma companies.
This is a remote role that can be located anywhere in the US and will report into the business leader for Pharma Manufacturing. -Codexis has corporate sites in Redwood City, CA and another in San Carlos, CA with employees across the US as well as other countries. -This role will report into the business leader for Pharma Manufacturing.

  PhD candidate or someone with strong scientific acumen with a deep understanding of biocatalysis!!

  Extensive experience selling to small molecule pharma manufacturing!

  Strong negotiation skills and ability to secure business with new small- to mid-size pharma accounts specifically small molecule pharma manufacturing!!
  
  
• 
  A good technical understanding of synthetic organic chemistry or similar discipline is required to credibly discuss Codexis' business with existing partners and prospects.
  
  
• 
  Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including strong open questioning and active listening skills.
  
  
  In this role you will be responsible for:
  
  • 
    
  • 
    Actively scout for and identify new research and product development opportunities at small- to mid-size pharmaceutical companies in the North American territory.
    
    
  • 
    Lead negotiations in support of securing and executing on Collaboration, Licensing and/or Supply Agreements
    
    
  • 
    Demonstrate technical credibility to consult with customers on technology solutions.
    
    
  • 
    Maintain current knowledge of the relevant market, products, and trends to effectively presentations and consultations with prospective customers.
    
    
  • 
    Utilize strong communication skills to directly interface with customers, as well as with internal cross-functional teams.
    
    
    The essential requirements of the job include:
    
    • 
      
    • 
      PhD degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field and 5+ years of experience in a pharma CRO/CDMO or related organization.
      
      
    • 
      Strong desire to win business and establish long term customer relationships.
      
      
    • 
      Track record of closing sales and initiate new collaboration partnerships.
      
      
    • 
      Willingness to travel up to 50%.
      
      
    • 
      Ability to work on different time zones from US East to West Coast as well as Internationally.
