Duties Participate as a team member in support of the total
perioperative process Admit patient to perioperative setting &
conduct pre-operative patient interview, assessment, and education,
counseling, and testing Explain informed consent for surgery and
answer any questions the patient/family members may have
Communicate team members regarding changes in the OR schedule
(time, procedure, add-ons, move-ups, and late arrivals),
patient/family special needs/concerns, and staffing
changes/problems Administer medications and perform safe,
individualized care for the patients Effectively communicate with
the team, physicians, and patient family members regarding the
patient's status Develop a plan of care to meet patient's needs
related to surgical condition Confirm that proper techniques and
procedures are used according to accepted standards of practice
Maintain order and cleanliness of postoperative area Obtain lab
tests and results as indicated; report abnormal values per policy
Explain postoperative plan of care to the patient/patient's family
including what to expect during the recovery phase and how the
family plays a role Perform postoperative telephone contact to
assess patient's post-op status and provide further education and
advise as needed Required Education and License/Certification
Associates level degree from an accredited school of nursing
required; Bachelor's level preferred Active RN California License
Current AHA BLS/ACLS Certification Qualifications and Skills
Minimum two (2) years experience in the recovery room at an acute
care facility preferred (in the last five years); Orthopedic
experience preferred. Experience in the post anesthesia recovery
required ASC experience preferred Strong ethical and moral
character references Ability to communicate effectively and
professionally with patients, visitors, physicians and with their
office personnel, coworkers, and other healthcare facilities in a
positive, respectful, and considerate manner Ability to promote
favorable facility image with physicians, patients, and general
public Ability to make decisions and solve problems Language skills
adequate for high-level written, interpersonal, and telephone
communication in American English Electronic Medical Record
