Department of Pathology is a founding department of the Stanford
School of Medicine and one of the leading departments in the United
States. Our preeminent faculty spans from emerging leaders to
highly accomplished physicians and scientists, including a Nobel
laureate and members of the National Academy. Our mission is to
improve the diagnosis, treatment, and basic understanding of the
human disease. This is done through discovery (research),
education, and clinical care.About the Position:Stanford University
is seeking a Human Resources Manager that will act as the first
point of contact for most human resources inquiries, serve as a
resource to staff and faculty on human resources policies,
procedures, and practices, as well as, provide human resources
administrative support. This role will be part of the Pathology HR
team and provide support in overseeing the day-to-day functions of
the HR team. You will work on process improvement, performance
appraisals, and employee relations, as well as supporting many
other areas. Working directly under the Associate Director of Human
Resources and General Operations, this person will need to have a
strong base in HR knowledge in order to maintain a high level of HR
service to the Department of Pathology.You should be highly
organized, proactive, extremely detail-oriented, and be able to
multi-task with ease in a fast-paced environment. Regardless of
your assignment, you will be expected to demonstrate strong
business judgment, professional etiquette and develop program
management skills. In addition to having a can-do attitude and
pleasant demeanor, you must have extraordinary communication skills
that allow you to interact with a diverse group of people.School of
Medicine employees who are patient-facing, work in, or frequent
clinical and hospital areas for work purposes are considered as
healthcare workers. This position is considered a healthcare worker
and will need to comply with the Stanford Medicine vaccination
requirements including the primary series of COVID 19
vaccine.Uploading a CV/resume is highly recommended.Duties include:
- Collaborate with the organization's management and/or human
resources team to support initiatives by understanding the
organization's issues and needs. Participate in planning processes
and promote best practices.
- Assist in the implementation of strategies for facilitating
organizational and behavioral change. Participate on organizational
design and related development issues.
- Investigate basic employee relations issues and recommend
appropriate resolution; work in consultation with more senior level
human resources manager/director to resolve complex issues. Coach
and advise on organizational, employee, and labor relations
issues.
- Assist in overseeing the performance appraisal process; ensure
the appropriate process is followed.
- Assist hiring managers in talent management (recruitment and
staffing plans).
- Administer area's salary-setting program to meet the
organization and university's guidelines. Advise managers on
assignment of employees to appropriate classification levels;
review and approve salary actions, as needed. Consult with manager
and/or human resources director or university compensation on
complex issues.
- Identify, communicate, and consult with staff on training and
career development opportunities. Conduct relevant training, and
participate in training design, as needed.
- Oversee processes for workers' compensation, disability, leave,
work place accommodation requests, and health and safety issues;
consult with managers, senior human resources manager or director,
as needed. Oversee the accurate documentation and
recordkeeping.
- Oversee and/or approve human resources transactions submitted
for processing. Ensure accurate and timely recordkeeping practices.
Prepare reports, and analyze data available through local and
centralized database resources.*-Other duties as assignedDesired
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative
working relationships in a consulting environment.
- Experience managing complex employee relations matters
- Experience mediating employee relations concerns
- Experience managing a team
- Experience in process using PeopleSoft
- Knowledge of various types of visa
- Knowledge of processing students and postdoc appointments
- PHR, PHR-CA, SHRM-CP, or other related HR certification
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments
with little supervision and ability to work well under
pressure.Education & Experience (REQUIRED):Bachelor's degree and
three years relevant experience, or a combination of education and
relevant experience.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (REQUIRED):
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience in at least two human
resources areas, including: employee relations, employment and
labor law, compensation, staffing and employment, training and
development, performance coaching and management, and
organizational development.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and understanding of group
dynamics. Successful track record of establishing credibility and
trust with a diverse client group.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem solving,
judgment, and influencing skills. Ability to maintain
confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to
prepare clear and concise reports and deliver formal presentations
or training.
- Demonstrated proficiency with business applications, such as
Microsoft Office suite and human resources information
systems.Physical Requirements*:
- Frequent stand/walk, sit, use a computer; use a telephone,
grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
- Occasionally reach/work above shoulders,
twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp forcefully, lift/carry/push/pull
objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, write by hand, sort/file
paperwork.
- Rare kneel/crawl, operate foot and/or hand controls.*-

work location, with the possible ability to be either co-located
near the Stanford campus or in Palo Alto, CA as a hybrid worker.The
expected pay range for this position is $103,000 to $119,000 per
annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its
good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to
pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be
determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope
and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the
selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal
equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable
