POSITION OVERVIEW Reporting to Chief People Officer, the Associate Director, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (AD, DEI) serves a collaborative leader who leads, designs, advises, and implements the Rocketship Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion three year strategic plan in alignment with our DEI Vision. This is done in partnership with the DEI Council, National Leadership Team, and key functional leads. They will not manage any specific team but rather be a key leader of cross-functional team leadership and collaboration to ensure equitable practices across the network.The charge of the AD, DEI is to 1) ensure equitable review of practices across our network 2) cultivate an inclusive culture where all RPS staff can thrive 3) ensure ongoing staff development around diversity, equity and inclusion 4) monitor and advise on key DEI metrics with the DEI Council.IDEAL CANDIDATESThe ideal AD, DEI candidate will align with Rocketship's Vision, Mission, and Values. The candidate will establish, lead, and reinforce an inclusive culture across the network to ensure Rocketship remains a model in public education and strives towards becoming an anti-racist multicultural network. This leader will have a strong presence, excellent communication skills and significant ability to motivate and influence others. They will have proven experience successfully managing diverse stakeholders and realizing strong outcomes. The candidate should possess exceptional strategic management, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a track record of delivering on commitments through excellent execution.The candidate will have the ability to easily navigate across the spectrum of Rocketship Public Schools stakeholders and communicate effectively with all kinds of people, including school staff, school leaders, functional leads, and board members. The candidate will have experience successfully building coalitions and managing community and organizational stakeholders. In addition, the ideal candidate will have some experience with Rocketship schools, ideally as a school leader so that they are more deeply informed regarding school environments, school leadership, and the daily realities of schools and school staff experience.ResponsibilitiesDEI Strategic Planning, Project Management, and Progress Monitoring: (30%) Review key DEI metrics and ensure collaborative process to design three year DEI plan. This will also include creating ongoing collaboration with key functional teams to monitor and advise regarding progress on issues identified through network equity audit. The AD will design a process to provide feedback to key functional teams and the redesigning on Rocketship Way leveraging decentering whiteness tools. The DEI AD will also review DEI metrics on staff surveys, review and synthesize key trends, and design data rollout plans for all key stakeholders (DEI Council, SLT, Talent, School Leaders, School Staff, and NeST). DEI Governance and Management Alignment: (20%): DEI AD will support the establishment of the DEI Council as an essential advisory board and accountability group for the network's DEI vision and strategy. This is the key group that is responsible for reviewing data, gathering input (listening tours, etc.), and providing guidance and accountability for key functional teams (Talent, PD, HR). They are also responsible for unpacking and revising the "Rocketship Way." The candidate must be strong at creating teams and systems to build a strong DEI Council. The AD will ensure coordination and alignment between the DEI Council and other key Rocketship management structures (e.g. Network Senior Leadership Team, Regional Leadership Team).DEI Program Management:Training, Development, and Affinity Space Creation: (20%): The DEI AD will have a strong background in best practices in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training and anti-racist schools. They would have had several years of DEI facilitation and the ability to train others. Using the DEI leadership competencies, DEI survey data, and best practices, this candidate will align with top DEI content developers to design a scope and sequence for all staff at Rocketship - School Staff, School Leaders, NeST. This upcoming year there will be an increased focus on Manager development as well as SLT/DoS collaboration. Also as we are a responsive school network, this role will also be responsible for holding processing spaces for DEI events that arise. In the past this has included processing and affinity spaces to process the violence against Geroge Floyd, Storming of the Capitol, increased violence towards AAPI communities. This person must be comfortable facilitating and teaching others how to facilitate around DEI topics. This role would also be responsible for defining key DEI terms in the context of RPS and ensuring there is a shared and meaningful understanding to guide our work.DEI Training and Development of DEI Facilitators (15%): The DEI AD will ensure that each school has a co-facilitator for DEI school based sessions. This group is determined each year by an application process. The DEI AD coordinates a "train the trainer" model where facilitators review and rehearse the upcoming sessions. The AD would also observe and give feedback for DEI facilitators. They are responsible for their DEI content building knowledge and facilitation.DEI Ambassador (15%): The DEI AD needs to have a strong executive presence and ability to build relationships across many different cross functional groups at Rocketship. They should consistently model Rocketship's core characteristics and be an effective and empathetic listener so that our DEI efforts are incorporating diverse voices and perspectives. They will need to be a leader in communicating about the importance of racial equity and invest in building a shared understanding of how Rocketship staff as individuals and Rocketship as an organization can create a more inclusive culture and equitable outcomes for our students and staff.QualificationsBachelor's Degree, Masters preferred3+ years designing and implementing organizational change initiatives with diverse stakeholders2+ years of facilitating DEI sessions and ideally training DEI facilitatorsExperience with a variety of DEI trainings and strong knowledge of anti-racist school best practicesDeep commitment to Rocketship's mission to eliminate the achievement gap in our lifetimeDeep commitment to enhancing workplace culture and values, esp related to DEIPossess the core characteristics required of every Rocketeer: community, tenacity, authenticity, innovation, and pursuit of excellence.Ability to build trust, relationships, and credibility quickly with people in various roles at all levels of the organizationAbility to independently and effectively manage time in an environment with multiple workstreams, competing priorities, and geographically dispersed teamTeam player with extraordinary communication skills, high tolerance for ambiguity, and comfort in rapidly changing environmentStrong analytical skills and ability to translate metrics, research, and trends into strategy Proficient in Google Docs, excel, PPT, and ZoomPhysical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
