Summary of Major Responsibilities

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist II is responsible for performing high complexity laboratory testing on patient specimens, interpreting and reporting patient results, performing quality control and quality assurance procedures, and complying with all applicable local, state, and federal laboratory requirements. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist II will consistently display excellent execution in all aspects of their work and contribute in projects and discussions in addition to daily laboratory testing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Perform laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses according to the laboratory's standard operating procedures (SOPs). * Perform, review, and document laboratory quality control procedures. * Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment. * Prepare reagents required for laboratory testing. * Review, interpret, and report patient results. * Identify and troubleshoot complex problems that adversely affect test performance. * Maintain sufficient inventory of laboratory supplies for daily operations. * Participate in testing and validation of new laboratory equipment and procedures. * Supervise unlicensed laboratory personnel. * Provide leadership in daily activities as a shift lead as needed. * Communicate effectively with coworkers and non-laboratory personnel. * Address issues with non-laboratory personnel with assistance from senior staff and supervisors. * Prioritize a positive work environment. * Train laboratory personnel on current and new procedures. * Maintain stringent standards for quality, identifying any issues which might adversely impact the quality of test results and/or employee safety, and communicating these to the appropriate management representatives as necessary for resolution. * Ability to analyze and problem solve complex issues that impact test performance. * Ability to manage daily test processing needs along with project needs in a high quality, efficient, and effective manner. * Ability to effectively communicate technical information to technical and non-technical audiences. * Strong communicator with the ability to maintain open communication with internal employees, managers, and customers as needed. * Ability to integrate and apply feedback in a professional manner. * Ability to prioritize and drive to results with a high emphasis on quality. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Ability to multi-task and be flexible with tasks and schedules. * Excellent attention to detail. * Effective written and verbal communication skills. * Uphold company mission and values through accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and * Support and comply with the company's Quality Management System policies and procedures. * Regular and reliable attendance. * Ability to lift up to 25 pounds for approximately 5% of a typical working day. * Ability to work seated for approximately 35% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 65% of a typical working day. * Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 40% of a typical working day. * Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height. * Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements. * Considerable amount of time using various types of laboratory equipment including microscopes, microtomes, blades, strainers, and pipettes. * May perform repetitious actions using lab tools. * Some time spent using near vision to view samples at close range. * Use of various chemicals may be used to perform duties. * May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens, blood, blood products, instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Chemical or Biological Sciences; or Military Education equivalent. * Completion of a CLS, CGMBS, or equivalent training program at an accredited institution. * Possess a valid California CLS/CGMBS license or CGMBS Trainee license with training hours completed at Exact Sciences. * 2+ years of clinical laboratory experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, CGMBS, or equivalent. * Professional working knowledge of local, state, and federal laboratory regulations. * Demonstrated skills in laboratory automation. * Strong computer skills to include Internet navigation, Email usage, and word processing. * Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship. * Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

* High volume laboratory experience. * Experience working with LIMS. * Training in molecular biology techniques. * Proficient in Microsoft Office programs; including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
