Codexiss Biotherapeutics division uses our world-leading CodeEvolver protein engineering platform to discover novel therapies for the treatment of genetic disorders and other debilitating disease. We engineer proteins with high efficacy and safety with the goal of delivering the therapeutic to patients as an enzyme replacement, mRNA, or gene therapy.

To help us meet our goals, we are looking to hire a Scientist, AAV Analytics. In this position, the successful candidate will be a key member of our Vector Sciences group responsible for establishing assays and characterizing AAV vectors for Codexis gene therapy programs and contributing to the design of Codexis engineering platforms. The ideal candidate will have broad expertise with AAV production, as well as experience designing and generating viral vectors capsids to deliver genetic payloads. Strong organizational skills, the ability to tackle multiple projects simultaneously and a desire to work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment are essential.

In this role your day will be filled doing the following:

  • Develop and execute assays to assess the quality of research vectors, including characterization and release assays for translational studies.
  • Support Gene Therapy projects by processing and analyzing biodistribution of vectors.
  • Direct assay qualification studies, write study protocols, and report findings
  • Develop vector lot release testing strategy and sampling plans, and review all testing documents and data in preparation of vector release (COA)
  • Design and implement efficient systems to monitor/ maintain vector and sample inventory

To be successful in this role, your background and experience should include:

  • PhD in a life sciences or engineering discipline with 3+ years of post-degree experience in an academic or industry laboratory setting, or BS/MS with 6+ years of experience
  • Familiarity with standard analytical techniques for characterizing rAAV Vectors (SEC, AUC, Purity, CE, RP-HPLC, DLS, Potency)
  • Prior experience training, mentoring, or supervising research associates desired.
  • Highly organized, attentive to detail, and able to work under tight timelines in a collaborative team setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The skills and experience you will use regularly will be:

  • AAV production and purification in HEK and/or Baculo Sf9 cells
  • Restriction enzyme cloning, Gibson Assembly, Golden Gate Assembly
  • qPCR/ddPCR principles and analysis
  • Mammalian cell culture and good aseptic technique
  • Data analysis software including Excel, Prism, Snapgene (or similar), etc.
  • DNA/RNA sequencing and analysis
  • Ability to troubleshoot and think analytically
  • Strong work ethic and a collaborative, team player
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and support multiple projects simultaneously
  • Effective communication
