As a Senior Engineer of Joining and Fastening, you will design, develop and manage the technologies that join together the Chassis; components that control lateral, longitudinal and vertical control of world leading electric vehicles. You will engage with a other members of the team to guide them on bolt design and other joining technologies to make a premier steering, suspension and braking system from concept to production. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop calculation methods (spread sheet calculations and CAE) that correlate to real world testing for bolted joint sizing
  • Run bolted joint testing for determining k-factor and proving joint strength
  • Develop procedures and methods for non-fastened joint joining methods (Welding, Adhesives, Riveting, etc.)
  • Research advanced technologies for joining and plan how to validate and implement into future programs
  • Manage the fastener library and part numbers for standardizing across the system and across different programs
  • Collaborate with manufacturing in order to reduce complexity and increase robustness of each joint
  • Determine required tolerances using GD&T
  • Manage multiple complex projects in a demanding environment

Qualificiations

  • 5+ years of automotive industry experience, mostly focused on fastening technologies
  • Extensive experience with fastener testing and ability to personally run testing
  • Full comprehension of bolted joint calculations and proven history of joint design
  • Hands-on practical experience in prototype assembly, vehicle service or manufacturing assembly
  • Proven CAD experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • A strong desire to create state-of-the-art engineering products as an integral part of a capable team
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 20% if needed is Advantageous
  • Experience and proficiency with CATIA V5/V6 or similar software preferred
  • Knowledge of vehicle crash safety principles
  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics principles
  • Knowledge of NVH principles
  • Ability to run CAE analysis tools
  • Driven-vehicle attributes development experience

Education

  • BS/BEng or MS/MEng, or equivalent experience, in Mechanical Engineering
