Job Description:
Working at the intersection of hardware, software and molecular
science, Carbon is committed to delivering on the promise of 3D
printing, enabling commercial customers to go beyond basic
prototyping to 3D manufacturing. - Our company is built on the idea
that diverse fields of study must come together to solve
intractable problems. We have grand ambitions to create technology
that will influence industry around the world.
We are seeking a highly motivated, creative and hands-on mechanical
engineer with a data science/computer science background to push
our boundaries of understanding of lattice performance at Carbon.
This position will interface heavily with application engineers to
test and characterize lattice dynamic and static performance to
help them succeed in achieving design wins. Ideally this candidate
can have a mechanical engineer or relevant engineering background
with an eye towards data science and modeling to help the team
digest and
optimize testing and results throughput. The goal is to optimize
our understanding from physical testing so that we can continue to
reduce needed physical testing.
Characterization is the foundation of the data that is required to
make key decisions. This individual should be able to understand
critical problems, develop the necessary experimental test plan,
and communicate the results to peers, coworkers, and customers
effectively. In addition, the ideal candidate's work experience
should demonstrate an eye for detail towards method development and
use statistical tools to create high-powered and robust
experiments.
Responsibilities:
--- Interface with the application engineers to characterize 3D
printed lattices
--- Characterize simplified lattice geometries and translate
understanding to expected performance in full product systems
--- Improve on characterization processes to utilize existing and
new data for future lattice tools.
--- Create and build upon lattice tools that engineers can use to
quickly guide their selection of material and lattice geometry to
target a specific performance
--- Build out our understanding of incumbent foams, particularly
around rotational impact
--- Would be comfortable building out testing equipment to modify
existing impact testing equipment or simulate full product
testing
Requirements:
--- PhD in mechanical engineering, biomechanical engineering or
engineering sciences preferred. Outstanding BS/MS level with
industrial experience will also be considered.
--- Experience in data science or modeling is highly preferred.
--- Experience with static or dynamic testing of foams in
applications such as footwear, helmets, and padding; demonstrates a
deep understanding of linear and rotational impact. Knowledge of
testing requirements for associated impact testing such as NOCSAE,
Virginia Tech STAR, DOT, ECE, Snell, MIPs etc is preferred.
--- Experience with building and/or testing on impact/drop tower
equipments and fixture design
--- Experience with analysis of large quantities of data and build
out of tools to enable users to easily access results
--- Experience working in cross functional teams
You do not need to match every listed expectation to apply for this
position. Here at Carbon, we know that diverse perspectives foster
the innovation we need to be successful, and we are committed to
building a team that encompasses a variety of backgrounds,
experiences, and skills.
