Center (TME TRC) is focused on developing therapeutic targets at
the intersection of tumor, stromal and immune biology within the
TME with the goal of enhancing responsiveness to checkpoint
blockade and targeted therapies and transforming response and
durability rates for cancer patients. Comprising of scientists
across multiple disciplines we are responsible for the biology and
translational science necessary to support drug development from
target identification through to first in human studies.Position
Summary:The Scientist will join the Immuno-Oncology and Stromal
Biomarkers Translational Research team at Bristol Myers Squibb in
Redwood City, CA to execute on translational research plans and
develop prototype biomarker assays for immune and stromal targets
within the tumor microenvironment. The qualified candidate is a
highly motivated, interactive, and organized individual that
possesses the ability to work across a matrixed environment to
support progression of therapeutic targets and is interested in
growth as a scientist. This position will specifically support the
identification of potential predictive and pharmacodynamic
biomarkers for therapeutic programs by characterizing primary human
samples and employing them in functional assays. The candidate will
also have the opportunity to develop prototype assays for receptor
occupancy and target engagement to support clinical development.
Finally, the candidate is expected to effectively collaborate with
colleagues in the immunology, stroma, oncology, chemistry, and
protein engineering groups through clear verbal and written
communication skills.Position Responsibilities:In the role as a
Scientist within TME TRC Translational Research, I-O & Stromal
Biomarkers, the ideal candidate:
- Applies scientific, technical skills, and functional knowledge
to independently plan and select appropriate methodologies for
translational research studies
- Executes experiments to support indication prioritization and
development of predictive and pharmacodynamic biomarker strategies,
as well as assay development for therapeutic programs
- Explores combination activity with standard-of-care agents with
clinical candidates to support development strategy
- Identifies and potentially develops new technologies and assays
relevant for biomarker discovery and analysis
- Documents and reports research findings
- Makes presentations in multidisciplinary meetings, logically
presenting information to convey clear, key messages
- Actively participates in internal and external scientific
meetings through presentations and critical evaluation of both
internal results and emerging scientific literature
- Collaborates effectively across different functions
- May make decisions that impact entire workgroup/project
teamExperience = Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- 5+ years of academic and / or industry experience Or
- Master's Degree
- 3+ years of academic and / or industry experience Or
- Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences
- No experience necessaryPreferred Qualifications:
- Strong research experience in stromal biology and translational
research
- Strong knowledge of stromal biology, including fibroblast
cells, extracellular matrix, and/or vasculature, in the context of
cancer biology
- Independence in experimental execution, data analysis, and
troubleshooting =
- Experience in handling primary cells, including cancer
associated fibroblasts and immune cells from tumor tissues and
peripheral blood
- Experience performing functional assays, including co-culture
assays to model the stromal-immune and cancer cell interactions in
tumor tissues
- Experience with multiple assay/technology platforms such as
flow cytometry, ELISA (MSD, Luminex, etc), and genomic analysis
(library prep, NanoString, qPCR, etc.)
- Experience performing DNA, RNA, and protein isolation
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving/troubleshooting
capabilities
- Interprets own data, makes conclusions, and recommends next
steps
- Proficiency in utilizing software such as Graph Pad, Microsoft
office etc. for data analysis and figure generation
- Experience with prototype biomarker assay development
- Some experience in bioinformatics and/or computational
biology
- Attention to detail with impeccable organizational and record
keeping skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong communication skills required, with an ability to
communicate and translate ideas and data into concise written and
verbal communicationThe starting compensation for this job is a
range from $97,000.00 - $135,300.00, plus incentive cash and stock
opportunities (based on eligibility). The starting pay takes into
account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and
where the job is performed. Final, individual compensation is
