Ethicon, part of Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices Companies, is recruiting for a Senior Manufacturing Electrical Engineer, located in Redwood City, CA.

Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices is focused on shaping the future of digital surgery and expanding its robotics and digital solutions offerings across the entire portfolio, with multi-specialty, end-to-end solutions in orthopedics, endoluminal intervention and general surgery. This includes the MONARCH - platform, a first-of-its-kind robotic technology indicated for bronchoscopic visualization of and access to patient airways for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the lung.

The Senior Manufacturing Electrical Engineer is a key member of a multi-functional team responsible for the development, transfer, and support of manufacturing processes for capital equipment product and accessories. This role actively participates and provides operational leadership through the entire lifecycle of product development, from early-stage feedback through production floor support. Engineers in this role lead design and qualification of fixtures, equipment, and tools to be used in manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities
Develops procedures and processes for pilot and production stage assembly of Auris systems.
Lead contributor to design teams during development process to provide design-for-manufacturing and design-for-service feedback
Maintains traceable list of design or tolerance issues throughout development and verifies corrective actions through design phases
Structures bill of materials (BOM) and provides leadership in coordination of BOM changes throughout the supply chain.
Leads and defines new product introduction activities for transfer of new products into manufacturing. Assesses existing capabilities and identifies strengths and gaps.
Leads process FMEA development and risk management strategy. Develops process control points to minimize risk to product and assembler safety.
Responsible for technical capability assessment as part of identification and selection of electronics contract manufacturing partners, and develops transfer plans and acceptance criteria.
Specifies or designs assembly fixtures and selects tools to increase product quality and employee safety.
Initiates training and development for assembly technicians working on NPI assemblies. Hands-on with training and feedback to and from manufacturing personnel.
Mentors junior team members (R&D and Operations) in best practices for assembly and design-for-manufacturing.
Apply GMP and GDP principles to assembly and test procedures and documentation.
Supports qualification and validation activities for new or changed manufacturing processes or equipment.
Investigates nonconformances and test failures, works with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to develop effective resolutions.


BS degree or higher in Electrical Engineering


Experience and Skills:
6 or more years of medical device or capital equipment assembly and test experience
Ability to read electrical schematics required
PCA debug experience required
Wire harness and cable design experience preferred
Experience with early and late stage product development iteration cycles.
Participation on product core teams from initial design through to commercial launch
Strong components knowledge and best practices for electronics assembly and product servicing

Proficiency with AutoCAD/Altium
Agile PLM experience
Startup and new product development experience
Hands-on skills with PCA test fixture design or specification
Electrical safety testing experience
Agile project management methodologies


This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.
