Systems Operations Analyst (100% remote option) Open to 100%
remote work to those that live outside of the ten San Francisco bay
area counties. Relocation or sponsorship will not be provided for
this position. Stanford's central IT organization has an opening
for a Systems Operations Analyst. Technology Consulting Group (TCG)
is an entrepreneurial and forward-thinking team with a keen focus
on -intuitive customer service. This is a full-time position in a
fee-for-service organization that uses a cost-recovery model to
fund our -operations. Our portfolio consists of cloud deployments
with Amazon (AWS), Google (GCP) and Microsoft (Azure),
virtualization (VMware) and on-premise servers. We also provide
database administration and backup solutions. We have about 550
systems and 100 databases under our care. We engage with the entire
Stanford community providing knowledge and expertise as our number
one service. We are growing our team of fourteen technologists. You
would be joining the Operations team working as a Systems
Operations Analyst. For more information on TCG, visit

- System administration activities: Patching, securing,
monitoring, maintaining systems and the performance of workloads
are the primary responsibilities for this position. We're looking
for someone whose keen interests and technical savvy can be put to
good use deploying technical resources and finding
efficiencies.
- Manage hardware, software, and utilities for installation,
modification, troubleshooting, maintenance, and upgrades of
operating systems and server environments.
- Monitor and analyze resource usage to recommend/develop
enhancements to system capabilities and performance.
- Compare, evaluate, and implement new technologies. Integrate
systems into the computing environment.
- Document systems infrastructure for users, support, and
consulting personnel.
- Act as liaison with various departments across campus.
Qualifications: Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or a
combination of education and relevant experience.
- Strong systems configuration experience - Puppet preferred
- Solid grasp of Linux-based operating systems (Red Hat, Debian)
and Windows Server
- Scripting for automation- Python preferred, but modern
alternatives welcome
- Default use of command-line interfaces for performing
operational activity
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to autonomously
solve work-related issues
- Knowledge of System Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices and
philosophies
- Experience maintaining online presence and team connection when
working remotely
- Humility and empathy, to know what matters to our clients with
a focus on meeting their best interests
- Curiosity, with a proclivity towards automation
- Ability to explain complicated technologies in readily
consumable language
- Patience and grit to deal with the normal fits, starts and
pauses common in academic environments
- An embrace of cross-team collaboration and multi-stakeholder
decision-making Physical Requirements
- Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp
lightly/fine manipulation. Frequently sitting.
- Occasionally stand/walk, twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work
above shoulders, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull
objects that weigh up to 10 pounds. Rarely kneel/crawl, climb
(ladders, scaffolds, or other, grasp forcefully, use a telephone,
writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 21> 40
pounds. Working Conditions & Standards
- Exposed to high voltage electricity, noise > 80dB TWA,
confined spaces, hot temperatures, heavy metals.
- Occasional extended hours and some weekends
